Patterns are hard to understand

I bought this book because I wanted to make the sushi platter for my friend for her birthday. Unfortunately, the pattern was not written for intermediate level crocheters like myself. It didn't make any sense at all. I tried the apple and even though I have worked in rounds, if I didn't know how to do the next step, I would have been lost. In the beginning, they mention that this book is good for beginners but that is not true. I don't recommend this book for beginners, only advanced crocheters could possibly understand what they are talking about in the way they have written the patterns.
