No one has helped more families find time to fit home-cooked meals into their daily routines than Rachael Ray. Now with the help of Yum-o , the organization she founded to help kids and adults develop a healthier relationship to food and cooking, she has put together the ultimate family cookbook, which includes recipes that both kids and their parents will love cooking-and eating-together Rachael knows that every family wants to make the best possible food choices-and get the very most out of their food-budget dollars. The recipes here feature more whole grains, use less fat, and make the most of fresh fruits and vegetables so they are as good for you as they are delish, and they're all quintessential Rachael-fun and creative. You'll also find notes on how to get even very young kids involved in the cooking process; great ideas for everything from breakfast to the lunchbox to dinner; wholesome snacks; and loads of new double-duty dinners that let you cook once, then eat twice or more. With lots of full-color photos and tons of helpful tips for making mealtime the very best part of the day, Yum-o is a must-have for every busy family.
I received this book as a gift, and I love it! The pictures look so yummy, and I like how it's divided into sections of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I especially like her cook once eat twice recipes, where you spend a little time to make a meal, and then by adding a few different ingredients, you can have a meal for the next day, or two! The only drawback is, where's dessert? I would love to see some dessert recipes, and maybe some tabs to separate the breakfast/lunch/dinner sections.

I bought this cookbook for my daughter-in-law for Christmas because she loves Rachel Ray. I get a call every couple days from my son or grand kids telling me how great the food is that she is cooking out of this cookbook. How much better recommendation could you give? Shirley

Through the recipes in this book I have "gotten" my kids to expand their appetites beyond pizza and chicken nuggets. The soups are especially good and very simple to prepare.
Healthy and Tasty

In the introduction, Rachael Ray writes: "The goal of Yum-o! The Family Cookbook is to make eating healthier as a family easier, more affordable, and fun." And it IS a fun and colorful cookbook that is also loaded with practical advice. Full color photographs abound, with kids and food as the centerpiece. The cookbook is designed to get young kids to look at it and get into healthy eating. Very well done. The book is divided into three parts: healthy breakfasts, lunches & snacks, and dinners. Many of the recipes are classics that have been embellished to make them more nutritious. For example, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich adds banana, honey and turkey bacon slices on whole wheat. There are sections called Great Ideas. One is to designate a shelf in the kitchen and a shelf or drawer in the refrigerator for easy to grab snacks. Ray provides a list of healthy snacks, too. There is a list showing how greens differ in nutrition. Dinners look great and are appealing to both kids and adults. For example, cornflake-crusted tilapia with sweet and spicy watermelon salsa and mega turkey nacho dinner. This is a terrific cookbook for families with young kids who want to eat nutritional, tasty and easy to make meals.
