You're Not Enough (and That's Okay): Escaping the Toxic Culture of Self-Love

From one of the sharpest Christian voices of her generation and host of the podcast Relatable comes a framework for escaping our culture of trendy narcissism--and embracing God instead.

We're told that the key to happiness is self-love. Instagram influencers, mommy bloggers, self-help gurus, and even Christian teachers promise that if we learn to love ourselves, we'll be successful, secure, and complete. But the promise doesn't...

Such a great book!

Allie Beth Stuckey is wise beyond her years & speaks truth in a confused culture. This book is a great reminder of how the gospel relates to our identity in Christ, and how it is Christ that makes us enough, because we are not enough on our own, or else Jesus never needed to come!

Extremely religious

This book should be re titled you’re not enough (and god says that’s okay). I heard great things about this book but just flipping through this book I realized it’s all about dealing with the things you hate about yourself because god made you that way. I should have done more research before I purchased. If you are a Christian it’s an okay book I guess- but it’s not a sustainable or realistic approach on self acceptance. I didn’t even put it in the goodwill basket, just straight in the trash.

Life-Changing! Important Message! Timely!

This book is absolutely amazing! MUST READ!! I plan on saving this book for my niece. I love Allie and her podcast, Relatable; so when she announced she wrote a book I had to get it! I think all women (and even men, I read out loud some parts to my fiance, whom really liked the content) should read this book! Especially those struggling with where their worth/identity comes from. Who am I? Allie reminds us that we are who HE says we are. She says "the self can't be both the problem and the solution.” Self love is not the answer to living a better, happier, more fulfilled life, GOD is. That a woman's worth via self-love according to culture's standard is everchanging but God's love is constant and unwavering. Allie debunks 5 myths in that are popular in cultural/politics today, "You Are Enough, You Determine Your Truth, You're Perfect The Way You Are, You're Entitled To Your Dreams, You Can't Love Others Until You Love Yourself."

Eye-opening

Oh my goodness. This book convicted me so much. I never realized how much of a problem the self-love culture really is. Allie Stuckey perfectly relays the problems with this toxic culture and the fact that this culture promotes the god of self; our only solution... Jesus Christ. He is the only person who can truly satisfy our needs and desires, not ourselves. I've definitely bought into the lies that this whole self-love culture presents as a solution to all our problems if we only love ourselves. Allie covers the 5 myths that women often believe: You are enough, you determine your truth, you're perfect the way you are, you're entitled to your dreams, and you can't love others until you love yourself. This really helped me deepen my faith. I would highly recommend you read this or listen to her podcast episodes about self-love. We aren't enough, but God is, and that is much more comforting. Highly informative.
