Great Guide book!

I like this book a lot. The format is easy and information is easy to find. It talks about all essentials for your toddlers. I bought this book for a friend, and would recommend it to others.

One of the best toddler how-tos

"Your Toddler Month by Month" is a little bit of a deceptive title that would have you perusing charts and tables of milestones, but this well-written and photographed book is a very, very good encapsulation of toddler-preschooler development and well-researched parenting strategies. Among the dozen or so toddler books I've read, this one is one of the best and is chock full of useful techniques from how to talk to your older toddler to supporting memory development, to managing behavior. Also brilliant is the inclusion of the years two through four, which is a really monumental period of self-realization for tots and yet one that few books truly cover in depth. I can easily recommend this book to all parents and caregivers without reservation. It's a great read, quite accessible, and filled with interesting facts about toddlerhood. Highly, highly recommended.

Finally! A decent toddler book.

I've been searching for a book that falls in the middle of the spectrum between Dr. Sears and What to Expect the Toddler Years and think this is it. I loved "I'm Pregnant" and was thrilled to find a toddler book by the same publisher with the same format. There are lots of pictures and sidebars and the author's style is not at all condescending, though like "I'm Pregnant" this isn't the catchiest title! The book doesn't actually go month by individual month, it actually is organized into sections for 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, and 3-4 years which makes a lot more sense for toddler development stages. We practice what my best friend dubbed "realistic attachment parenting" and this book is very much in line with that. In other words, we do a lot of attachment style and pay attention to our child's personality/needs, but draw the line at things that aren't practical for us, like co-sleeping or constant babywearing. One thing I particularly liked about this book is that there's one indexed entry on breastfeeding, which basically says--it's a highly personal decision how long to do it. Don't look for weaning advice or a celebration of extended breastfeeding here, just a couple of straightforward sentences. The author has good credentials and solid sources. The sections on brain development are easy to read and fascinating! I recommend this book to anyone who wants practical advice on raising and appreciating their toddler.
