A Favorite!

This is one of my all-time favorite childhood books. I can remember my mom reading the stories to me at bedtime, and when I was old enough, exploring the stories by myself. I still have my copy, but its drawn and written all over, and the cover is missing. Now that I have a daughter, I'm excited to find her a newer copy with the cover so she can go on adventures of her own. I highly recommend this book to anyone with kids.

Excellent reference bok

My mother used to read this book to "us kids" almost 40 years ago. When my own children were small, I spirited the volume away to my house, to continue the tradition. Recently I wrote a college paper on fairy tales. Looking for a source to reference the tales themselves, I turned to Young Years. I was amazed at the wealth of information it possesses- apparently overlooked the first two times through. This book serves as an exceptional reference material for college coursework. Not only will you find the familiar favorites, you will also discover lesser-known tales to support and broaden your thesis.

Let kids read a part of our past

This is a great reading book for kids. My kids enjoyed it and now my grandchildren are enjoying it. It has a lot of the older fairy tales and poems on it's pages that seem to be fading with time. I highly recommend it. I even found copies for my kids to keep as an heirloom.

jumpstart a kid's reading career

This was among the very first books I ever read, and I read it cover to cover several times. It is not one story but an all-encompassing collection of fairy tales, poems, bedtime stories and general childhood mythology. If you heard it as a kid, or the Grimm brothers spooked your ancestors with it, or Disney made a warm-n-fuzzy adaptation of it, it's probably in here somewhere. It was a great kickstart to my own imagination. Every household with a child between the ages of 5 and 12 should have access to something like Young Years.
