It does all adults good to occasionally be reminded of the child's perspective

Even though all of us were once young and small, it is a perspective that we seem to lose when we become adults. The child's world is often one of fear, uncertainty and doubt, as the adult world often seems to make no sense. Unfortunately, for most of us, it doesn't make sense even when we are into our later adulthood. This book is a collection of cartoons and captions from the perspective of a child, and if you can remember that far back, you will no doubt recall that you felt that way as well. My favorite cartoon is on pages 10 and 11. It shows the bottom of a girls dress with her panties at her ankles and a boy with his pants and underwear down around his knees. The caption is "They said we're bad. They said we did a dirty thing. They said we couldn't ever play together again. Ever! We weren't doing anything bad. We just wanted to see." I was caught playing "Pull down pants" with the neighbor girl Nancy when I was in kindergarten and this caption captures exactly how I felt at the time. My second favorite is on pages 30 and 31. The caption is "They told me not to read that magazine. They yelled, and they didn't let me watch television all week. My mother said it was disgusting. And my father gave me a book about baseball. But I found that magazine in their room!" The cartoon has a woman sitting down and scolding a young boy. The funny part is that her face looks like a shapely female butt. When I was that age, I also snuck away and looked through my uncle's Playboy magazines every chance I got. As adults, we of course know more about the world than children and are responsible for their care and safety. Yet, it does all adults some good to every once and awhile remind ourselves that children are people and have a perspective on life that can still be an advantage decades after you left childhood. This book provides a humorous look at that perspective.
