FROM BACK COVER: After five years, you would think you know a person... Matt Collins has worked with uber-programmer Phil Fink for the past five years and although they've never met in person, he's sure he has the guy pegged. Fink is an anti-social workaholic and a class-A nerd who avoids personal interaction like the plague. Matt and his colleagues love to make jokes about Fink both because of his name and the life they assume he leads. But in business, there's no other programmer that Matt would rather work with. In fact, Matt's sure his next idea is bound to be the big one and Fink is definitely the man to do the job. And of course it's just a bonus if Matt comes back the office hero with intimate knowledge of the infamous Phil Fink. Calling Phil Fink a programming guru is probably an understatement; calling Phil Fink a man is just downright wrong... Five years of being known as nerdy old Phil Fink hasn't bothered her one bit because business is business and who cares what her gender is. But when Phyllis Fink's biggest client requires her to work face-to-face with one of their internal programmers, she freaks out and threatens to leave the country. Communicating via emails and instant messages has always worked in the past, why change what's not broken? Will Matt's intrusion into her ultra-secured home office shake up her personal life as well as her business reputation? And will Matt keep her secret or return to the office with the scoop of the century and intimate knowledge of the infamous Phil Fink?

Nice story with BBW heroine, but that deals with more issues than fat discrimination. It takes a look at the perceptions all people have, weather they are the victim or the clueless villian. This is the 2nd book I've read by Allen. My only complaint is the stories then to be lean. They would really benefit from a little more flushing out of the story. Another 20% could be added without it seeming padded.

Phil Fink is a telecommuting software programmer for Philanthropy Designs. Phil has a history of being one of the best at delivering what the customer needs. Phil has been requested by a customer to work on a really big project that could make or break Philanthropy Designs. Matt Collins the customer representative from Centre Seating, Inc. is flying out to meet with Phil to work on the project. Matt has worked with Phil before and thinks of Phil as intelligent and creative, but there is only one problem ...no one has ever met Phil face-to-face and Phil wants to keep it that way. The book "You Have Been Disconnected" is well written and easy to follow. Rida Allen has created a delightful romantic story that takes a look at the virtual world that we all live in today. Ms. Allen's use of conversations through email and instant messaging in the story is totally realistic. The development of the main character Phil was extremely well done. It takes the reader from looking at the life of a recluse, to the life of an open and lovable person. When forced to meet face-to-face with a customer, the character Phil discovers a whole new world. The story was totally believable, because technology has opened up the door to telecommunication. The more people start to depend on email and other sources of online communication, the more isolated we will become. Rida Allen's story is an excellent example of this situation. Reviewed by H.
