What I call 'the ugly' are things we dislike or even despise about ourselves. In the stuffing down of these censured parts of us, we become conditional beings: some of who we are is acceptable and some is not. Thus we set ourselves up to live conditionally: one foot on the throat of 'the ugly' the other balancing our acceptable self, and all for the approval of others.
