This book, "You Can Win at Office Politics," by Robert A. Bell is predicated on the decision-making principle in game theory. The principle behind game theory is discussed throughout the introduction. Each chapter, all fifty-one of them, described different situations you, the employee or boss, may face in your career e.g. Asking for a Promotion, When Your Boss Tries to Make You an Accomplice, or When Your Authority is Challenged. Even these chapter titles are intriguing. Each of them are no more than a few pages in length, and allow you to make the choice based on the decision-making dictum: "For each of your choices, consider only what you don't want but are afraid you might get, and pick the alternative that looks best when viewed in this light." This is a practical guide, not an academic approach to office politics. It is an excellent choice for anyone whose intuitive skills and experience may be wanting. Yes, it's been on my shelf for years. I recommend it. You really can't lose buying this.
Academic Bell offers a superb "practical" approach

Although an academic with genuine credentials, Bell offers a superb overview of how to deal with office politics using "game theory," the systems approach that helped the U.S. win WWII. He is pragmatic, funny, logical and, most of all, very "reality-based." This is a superb book with a very , very bad "pop" psycho-babble title that in no way does it the justice it deserves. If you can find it, buy it. But beware of loaning it: you may never see it again
