Schollwide Discipline Plan without the Loopholes

A quick read about the basics of Love and Logic. The book expressed why traditional schoolwide discipline plans don't work, why empathy is important to use when dealing with chronically disruptive students, and helping parents understand L & L discipline. The nine essential skills for teachers were also discussed in depth with examples of discipline problems.

Great!

This was excellent. I could not put it down and read it in one night and just a couple of hours the next morning. Immediately loaned it to my principal. This builds on Teaching with Love and Logic and was exactly the next step I needed to transform discipline on the school level rather than just one classroom. Definitely recommend it!

Love & Logic - Salamander's Aren't Fish

For those who haven't previously encountered Love & Logic materials, this is a great introduction to the student management philosophy. It covers the central principles and applies them practically to the school setting. Although not as complete as the book written for that specific purpose (Teaching with L & L), it still provides much useful information in a much more compact format. Highly recommended for anyone weary of repeated warnings and wondering why their best-intentioned efforts just don't seem to have lasting effects (or wondering why your efforts ARE working, but aren't sure why!).

Most amazing resource for raising well adjusted kids without all the power struggles!

Not sure what the other reader was talking about. I am an agnostic so I am pretty aware of that kind of thing. I was also a teacher. Not only does Love and Logic work in the classroom but it does amazing things with my kids. I have 2 toddlers and I think the Love and Logic books and videos are an indespensible resource. It seems to me that the previous reviewer was just looking for a forum to rant about something totally unrelated to these books. He also wasn't reviewing this book - I guess some people will actually mislead people to try and get their voice heard. If click on "see my other reviews" under his name you will see that he has reviewed every book in the Love and Logic series with this rhetoric that is based on complete ignorance. Charles Fay and Foster Cline (founders of Love and Logic) are from Evergreen Colorado - not Colorado Springs and have nothing to do with the whole "family first" thing. There is no affiliation whatsoever. Again, not sure what the other reviewer was talking about - but it is a shame that he may turn people away from a resource that is the most effective tool I have come across to raise children who are responsible, able to make choices effectively, have great self-esteem, and to avoid all the arguments and power struggles that come with parenting.

I have to completely disagree with the other reviews on this and other L & L materials. As a parent and public school administrator I find the philosophies and techniqes presented in Love and Logic valuable tools as both a professional and a parent. There are references to Christianity in some of the materials, but it is by no means "forcing" beliefs on others. In fact, when did respect, love and logic consequences become Christian only values? For as widespread as these materials are used in schools and homes across the country, you should think twice before buying in to the "fundamentalist" reviews. GREAT materials to use with kids and teens. Buy the books, they are WELL worth the money!
