Many previous reviewers complained that the ending was a letdown and, to be honest, it kind of was. One gets the feeling that Satona Mizushiro had the series canceled from under her and she rushed to wrap up all the plot threads. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work. In terms of the central conflict, the characters are essentially left where they started, struggling to deal with overwhelming social pressures without any real hope of relief. That said, the second volume of X-Day still has much to offer. The characterization and dialogue remained top notch, and the art continued to hauntingly evocative. Much of the story depends on subtle facial expressions and body language, and Mizushiro did a brilliant job of conveying it. In effort to wrap up the plots, she sacrificed some of the preceding volume's subtlety, but thankfully, she avoided outright melodrama. She handled the relationships between characters with quiet grace, which made all that much more believable. In the end, readers will probably end up disappointed with the final installment of X-Day. However, I hope that they would be able to appreciate the story for it's merits and forgive it's failings. Metona Mizushiro crafted a unique, brilliantly realized story of isolation and longing, and it would be a shame if the readers didn't see it through to the end.
X-Day, volume 2

I know that many people are disappointed with this book, but while I do understand that, I don't agree at all. X-Day was... really out of reach. Whether or not the characters involved will pull it off is a mystery, and that's part of the emotion left behind by the book. Maybe it's never meant to happen.Like a lot of people, I was looking for a longer storyline, though I'd already known it was only two books long. The abrupt ending surprised me, but it should be content, not length that makes a difference. There's something about the book, the characters, the story, X-Day itself that should make all the readers think a little bit. I recommend it to anyone, even non-anime/manga fans.
A lot of people are idiots.

A lot of people hated this manga because it ended so soon and it didn't wrap up the plot. I think it did this rather nicely. X-day was never supposed to happen. Rather, the manga is about four people with nothing finding friendship. I really liked the cliffhanger ending.

I was not at all disappointed with the contents of volume 2 in this book. No offense to the past reviewers, but it's not really a short and sweet thing for X-Day to happen. They have to go through the whole thing slowly, and on the way to X-Day, wouldn't you like to see some of their problems solved? The characters keep me in suspense the whole way through; I wish to find more about them every time I learn something is hidden.I know, just the plot of X-Day is impossible too, but that's what manga is for. Manga isn't to show real possiblities of life, but an imaginitive mind.5 stars for this creative manga! I'm sorry if I offended anyone at all with my opinions. =)
