Retinkering is the process of mentally and emotionally readjusting yourself to a place that feels good, now, or at least better, or more comfortable.Looking back I guess I started retinkering when I was about 20/21. I remember first retinkering because there were a pile up of things going on in my life that were troubling me. At the time of writing that was about 30 years ago.At that time, the time of the retinkering discovery, many things, people, circumstances and things about myself were piling up and starting to get me down. Retinkering gave me the opportunity to take a step back, look at these different areas of my life and life in general, with a view to developing an action plan to make changes. The early day deliberate retinkering sessions required pen and paper along with the intention of moving any matters from a difficult or painful feeling space to a more authentic and better feeling space. As time went on I remember frequently writing a list of my problems and things I wanted to change, looking at each point and trying to come up with different angles, options and action steps. And Retinkering, for me at least, started there.Retinkering went from being a tool for reflection and consideration for strategy and action and expanded into a new bigger tool for life, useful as much for mental, emotional and spiritual purposes as it was for the more physical and mundane.I was beginning to realize that through retinkering I was able at any time and under almost all conditions to connect with source, breathe and immediately move towards a better feeling space. Sometimes it took just a few moments to retinker myself from a state of anxiety or judgement into a more positive space of calm and acceptance. Be quick to be slow, take a moment and retinker Retinkering when needed has helped me move from participant to witness, enemy to friend, aggressor to peace maker, victim to victor or worrier to warrior in just a few heart beats and accompanying flickers of mental and emotional realignment. I know I'm not the first person to discover the merits of retinkering. Different people call it different names and it overlaps with several other philosophies and methods for maintaining balance and wellbeing. Raja yogis talk of mind control. Life Coaches and NLP'ers use the term reframing and the NHS quote Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as being 'a (self) talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It's most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression'.Retinkering includes all of this and like all of the above it works thanks to your own internal guidance system which gives off different signals and feelings depending on if you're heading towards happiness and wellbeing and what's right and true for you, or not.
