Wrestling Tough

Wrestling as much as any sport requires a special type and level of courage. The arduous training, periodic weight cutting, and public arena for performing are challenges that intimidate all but a special breed of athlete. And that is not to mention the sport's very essence: facing off against an opponent who wants to do nothing less than dominate you physically, destroy you emotionally, and humiliate you mentally. Wrestling Tough is a unique look...

Wrestling Tough

First class. Very well written and easy to read. This is not just about wrestling but the mind set required to succeed in any venture in life be it sport, business or a hobby.

Great Motivator

This book is a great for all coaches not just wrestling. If you're a sucker for great stories to motivate your athletes then you'll love this book. It's loaded with examples of great athletes who understand that to succeed you have to work hard and train your mind and body.

A must in your fighter's library

I just bought this book and read the first 5 chapters. So far, it is very inspiring and give stories of willing yourself to win, and what it take to seperate your self from the average person. Examples site stories of NCAA and Olympic wrestlers, Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling program/ Dan Gable, UFC fighters like Dan Severn, Matt Hughes, Randy Couture, etc. I've just started wrestling in my 40's. I did Judo and Jiu Jitsu in my 30's and Kickboxing/Kung Fu in my 20's. This is not only a great book to read and get pumped up before heading out to the gym, but I've recommitted to strive to be the best in my career and family life as well.

Inspiring!

Endorsed by the likes of Dan Gable ("Incredible reading!"), Mark Johnson ("Mike Chapman, the best writer in the history of the sport"), and Tom Brands ("a very motivational book"), I've been blown away by this book's motivating lessons of heroic battles and character building on the mat. This is a terrific book for fans, coaches, and wrestlers looking for inspiration and the techniques, tactics, and lessons for developing the X-factor for success. It's great to have a book focusing on a sport from which participants and fans can learn so many of life's great lessons. Courageous stories from the Olympic, collegiate, and high school ranks ranging from icons like Dan Gable to underdogs like Kyle Maynard and Nick Ackerman are intertwined with tales about Muhammad Ali, Dick Butkus, Michael Jordan, Lance Armstrong and many others to reveal that one's heart and mind hold the keys to success in life. Wrestling's demands (hard work, dedication, discipline, making sacrifices, and moving past setbacks) yield wrestling's rewards (character, confidence, mental toughness and the ability to face adversity) both on and off the mat. Recommended!

Stimulating

I really enjoyed the material in the book. It had lots of great wrestling history written into it as well as achievements of other great sports athletes. It was motivating and provided great insight into what mental toughness is. It shows how it is involved in every successful athletes sport. I read this book to my 8 year old son. He didn't get all of it but he enjoyed some of the stories of the historical matches and things to do with the sport of wrestling. It is an awesome book to have in our library.
