Worship in Song: A Biblical Philosophy of Music and Worship

According to author Scott Aniol, "Few books have been written that carefully distinguish between secular music that we listen to every day, and sacred music." Worship in Song discusses foundational matters before delving into how readers can make God-pleasing choices regarding the secular and sacred music to which they listen. Contending that a primarily theological misunderstanding is at the heart of the confusion surrounding music, Aniol addresses...

Fills a Gap in Your Library

What are the most important foundations to consider when building a Biblical theology of worship and music? Mr. Aniol has produced an excellent, thoughtful, tool for anyone desiring to strengthen their understanding in these areas. His use of analogies clarifies his position and propels the reader into areas of theology and philosophy I have not seen covered in other texts. His logical and orderly arguments are rich and stimulating. Recognizing the tremendous power of music to affect the listener, the author presents thorough analyses of Biblical principles along with many practical concepts which should be a great help to composers, music teachers, ministers, song leaders, and performers. Even if you disagree with some of his conclusions, you will be challenged and edified to think through your personal philosophy in ways you probably had not done before. A very profitable read!

Must-Read book on Music for the Christian

This is probably the best book on music I have ever read. Mr. Aniol's review and analysis of culture through the ages and his emphasis on heart issues make this a must-read book for anyone who is seeking to make musical choices that truly honor the Lord both in their private life and public worhip. This book is excellent for the lay person, as well as the full-time pastor or church musician. I wished every Bible believing Christian would get and read a copy of this book. It would make a huge difference on the Church's call to be salt and light in this dark world in an age when the church is severaly lacking in that calling.

Great Book

This is a wonderful book that gives helpful insights about conservative biblical worship. It really sheds some light on a difficult topic.

Scott Aniol

Scott Aniol has approached a sensitive subject with grace. His arguments are strong and clear.

Fantastic book!

Worship in song is one of the most fascinating entries in the many books about music in worship. Aniol has serious credentials as a theologian AND as a trained and skilled musician. His insights are credible both theologically and musically. He writes with the insights of a biblical scholar, the sensitivity of a pastor, and the practical knowledge of a well-trained musician. Scott makes a strong case for the ability of music to communicate apart from the words it carries. He articulates what we all know intuitively: music communicates emotions in a manner that anyone can understand. Worship in Song is supremely readable. Pastor Aniol patiently takes the reader through the many complex facets of this topic with calm logic and care. I highly recommend the book to all who seek to worship the Lord in the beauty of His holiness. Tim
