amazing story of the daughter of Brezhnev, for those of you unfamiliar, there was this country called 'the soviet union', and he was its leader for a while. Luba liked to have fun, and fall in love, and apparently that was a crime in the Soviet Union, as in many places. Her description of the emptiness of the bureaucracy and the sad contrast with the image it had of itself... it is truly instructful more than any history book. the system was so bankrupt and empty that many of her generation just chose to not join, opting for menial jobs rather than participate in a sham. a fraud. a lie. How can the government destroy a persons life? No problem, even though that person is the daughter of the leader of the country, the secret police were able to beat her while she was pregnant, causing the loss of a baby, and her father could do nothing. her boyfriend is lost to joining the army, and they are forbidden to see each other, or he will lose his job. she fled, fled away, to a new man, and eventually to america. nice book if you dont care for dry facts and stupid abstractions and want to know something real about history.
