Book Overview

"After graduation, the real world can be an intimidating and foreign place for college graduates. Sure, they've spent the past four years cramming for exams, writing essays, and reading books, but they did so in the twentysomething bubble of their college campuses. This guide fixes these problems by covering everything the recent grad needs to know in order to get in and get ahead in corporate life. Authors Bridget Graham and Monique Reidy...

Practical, No-nonsense Job Seeking Tips for Recent Grads

Throughout my own career, I have worked as a university academic advisor, hiring manager, and human resource manager. I have interviewed, hired, and worked with so many students and recent grads, and this book does an outstanding job at explaining the qualities that separate the exceptional job candidate from the rest of the pack. The tips and exercises in this book help job seekers accurately evaluate their current skills and give solid suggestions for improving their job-seeking effectiveness. Although this book is geared toward recent college grads, the advice given is applicable to anyone interested in putting their best foot forward as they embark on a new job search. In addition to tips on networking, communication style, interviewing/follow-up etiquette, and resume building provided by the authors, the book includes several bits of advice from a variety of HR professionals around the country. This book not only provides positive tips for success - it also points out several common (yet avoidable) pitfalls that many new job seekers encounter. I highly recommend this book to students and recent grads (including high school grads looking for their first job). Working World 101 will help you effectively communicate to potential employers in a way that demonstrates you ARE the right candidate for the job.

This book is AMAZING. I have come across many books on how to land a job but this one is by far THE MOST EXCEPTIONAL AND USEFUL REFERENCE EVER!!!! It includes examples of top-notch skills while still being an entertaining read. Other books on job hunting seem preachy but Working World 101 is witty and relatable!!! A gem of a book !!! I highly recommend it !

A must-read manual for your career

This is a great book for the new graduate or for someone re-entering the workplace or changing careers. I read the book and it is a nice refresher course on how to make yourself standout in interviews, especially with all of the competition for jobs that is out there. A must read.

Great Book!

This is a great book for any graduate! I got it for my cousin as a graduation present and she said it had many helpful tips and that it was very easy to read.

A MUST READ FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A JOB!

This book gave me lots of great information about job hunting and networking, especially in this really scary job market. Plus it reads like a chat with a mentor, not a confusing manual like other career guidance books. I'm so glad I purchased this book and I recommend it to anyone looking for a job. NUNA
