You may have found the most important book of your career

Three years ago I read John's book and was so touched and amazed that someone was actually saying "work and the human spirit" in the same breath. I read his book in one night(it is very easy reading) and was facinated by the stories of realization and transformation that came about with executives lives. I immediately called to find out about the Leadership Development Intensive and signed up for one myself. I found it was much more significant than I ever expected. I went through seemingly simple exercises that later reveal information about myself which made an immediate impact on my personal and professional life. I was also able to take information and apply it directly to my daily life and have used it continuously these three years to improve all my relationships. Of all the books I have read, Work and the Human Spirit is in the top three and of the educational courses I have attended, the LDI has made the most impact on my life.

Recommended reading for leaders

Having read the book and participated in the training which the book is based on, I would strongly recommend this as reading for all leaders. The kind of self inquiry and self development explored here are at the core of achieving your full potential and the full potential of your organization. The case studies really touch a chord as you are likely to see part of yourself reflected in each vingette. If for some reason you can't read the entire book, at least read the first and last chapters to stimulate your own thinking about unleashing the power of human potential.

You can bring "who you are" into the work place.

Being a corporate executive I belived I had to be one person in my personal life, and yet another in my work life. This book helped me to realize that was not true. "Work and the Human Spirit" is a powerful example of the strenght, excitement and dedication one can find if the bring all they are into the work place. It's a must read if you find yourself expereincing the same sturggle.

Real life stories that make your work more meaningful

In these brief, but very insightful stories of executives searching for meaning in their work and in their lives, John Scherer, has provided a very helpful set of insights for anyone who is wondering what their work is all about. As the reader reads these wonder-full stories, he or she can find guidance and encouragement for exploring the meaning of his or her own work and life. Among other things, what the book shows is the sacredness of every person's story--especially when that story is about the search for meaning in one's daily work. This book is an easy and enjoyable read that can stir deep thoughts and provide significant return on the investment of time and energy it takes to read it.

Fascinating accounts of mind/body/spirit integration

This book is primarily the true stories of how people were helped to see how to use their inner strengths more productively in their lives. John Scherer, the author, acts as a counselor to these people, and the book recounts how their lives were transformed through getting clearer about what they wanted to achieve, and then bringing more of their physical and spiritual energy to their work. John uses various techniques to help uncover what will really drive people to do their best and what is getting in their way. John offers general tips in the book, and uses the stories to show the power of transformation. Readers will be inspired to use the lessons in the book to better align themselves with their greater purposes. Leaders will be especially challenged to help others in their organizations find and follow their highest calling. An easy read, but a very important book.
