Great book!

This book shows the roots of the words all the way down. This is a great book for SAT studies.

Stems

This book helps me learn my stems. Whenever I see a word I don't know, I break it down, use the stems I learned, and get a good guess at what the word means. This is my second year using the book. I have impressed teachers at my ability to define new words. I am in the 7th grade. This is the time when words get harder. I no longer have to look them up. I just break them up and go!

The Best Program for Teaching Secondary Students Vocab.

I have used these Word Within a Word books for over 6 years out of my 11 years of teaching and have had the best results of any vocabulary system I have ever tried.(I have tried many!) The lists are ready to copy, the tests are there, and you can modify the tests to meet the needs of any student. We used this series in my school 7th-12th grade and SAT Verbal scores have risen considerably. It meets the TEKS requirements for all secondary grade levels. Most important, students that have learned these "stems" will be able to evaluate a word they have never seen before and figure out what it means. My former students come back to me and thank me for making their college classes easier.
