This book is an excellent guide in recognizing the figurative techniques accomplished writers use when creating beautiful prose. As a lover of lyrical language, this book helped me define the techniques of alliteration, parallelism, and metaphor I use without realizing it. If you find yourself writing with figurative language by nature you'll enjoy all the techniques in this book. If you love figurative language like you love chocolate, this book is a free ticket to Willy Wonka's Factory... D Kent
A treasure trove

OK, I'm a writer. But Cindy Rogers' excellent writing advice isn't the only reason I loved this book. She has scoured the English-speaking world's great literature to find fascinating examples of every writing device known to man (and woman). The quotes are marvelous-it's worth reading the book just for them. The chapters here are clear, concise, and readable. I discovered many devices I didn't even know I was using in my writing-and many more to punch up boring prose. If only I'd had this book in high school . . . or even college . . . it's a treasure-trove for writers of all abilities.
