A great book about becoming an artist, Woolgathering tells of a youngster finding herself as she learns the noble vocation of woolgathering, "a worthy calling that seemed a good job for me." She discovers--often at night, often in nature--the pleasures of rescuing "a fleeting thought." Deeply moving, Wool- gathering calls up our own memories, as the child "glimpses and gleans, piecing together a crazy quilt of truths." Smith introduces us to her tribe, "a race of cloud dwellers," and to the fierce, vital pleasures of cloud watching and stargazing and wandering.
A radiant new autobiographical piece, "Two Worlds" (which was not in the original 1992 Hanuman edition of Woolgathering), and the author's photographs and illustrations are also included. Woolgathering celebrates the sacred nature of creation with Smith's beautiful style, acclaimed as "glorious" (NPR), "spellbinding" (Booklist), "rare and ferocious" (Salon), and "shockingly beautiful" (New York Magazine).
This tiny little book from Patti at
first disappointed me, judging as I did based only by its diminutive size. Silly me! Her brilliant storytelling leaps off the pages. As one writer to another, I almost threw up my hands (and in truth the book across the room!) telling myself that I will NEVER come close to being as good a storyteller than Patti's wonderful world of words in her storytelling charisma. OK, I didn't really throw the book across the room! I could never do that with any book, especially Patti's!
This edition was stated as "like new" condition, however it is practically brand new in condition. But don't let it's small size or it's lack of heft discourage you from making this purchase! She doesn't need to write a tome to tell her stories. Look at it this way: you can devour it in one sitting. You will be awfully glad you did. And I truly hope that it will inspire you to pick up your pen and start writing your own story! There is no better compliment to another writer. You will not be disappointed. Heads up, I had to wait months for this book to be in stock, so I suggest you grab your copy while it is still available!
Just be forewarned, you will not be able to resist purchasing more of her books! I highly recommend M Train. You're welcome!!
