Herbal Healing made Easy

Whether you are new to herbal healing, or already have some experience, this book will be a delight. "Women's Herbs Women's Health" is a great resource for all women that would like to know how to use herbs to treat their most common ailments. The authors start out with some general information on herbs, their history, and how to prepare them. Then they go over women's hormones and what you can do to stay balanced. After that, it gets a little more specific, with an individual chapter for almost every common female problem, namely: - Mood Disorders - PMS - Menstruation - Anemia - Urinary Tract Infections - Vaginal Infections - STDs - Cervical Dysplasia - Endometriosis - Fibroids and Cysts - Menopause - Osteoporosis - Heart Disease - Pregnancy and Birth Each chapter goes over the symptoms and causes, and then explains how a medical doctor would treat the problem. After that you learn how you can treat yourself with dietary changes, supplements and most importantly herbs. I especially liked that there were a lot of tincture and aromatherapy recipes included. It's just very rewarding to make your own herbal medicine. This book is so packed full with useful information, that I still discover something new every time I open it up. I just wouldn't want to be without it.

You cannot go wrong with Christopher Hobbs

I took a herbalism course with Christopher Hobbs and must rave, and then some. He is simply a giant in the field of phytotherapy, medical and scientifically-based herbalism originating in Europe but now also with studies done in America. If you mention any herb---Chinese, Western, Ayurvedic or Native American---Christopher Hobbs will instantly draw molecular chains on the board without looking up a single thing. He will discuss clinical studies, which patients participating in those studies had which medical vulnerabilities prior to participation, how that affected the outcome of the study, etc. Chemistry, pharmacology, history, conventional use and scientifically-based use...this man will rattle off the top of his head without any need to consult any book of any kind. Because, he simply IS that walking encyclopedia! He also knows physiology, chemistry and body chemistry in exactly the same depth/detail. WIth more than 30 years of clinical experience, as consultant to the health industry world-wide, and as the most-quoted authority in the field of phytotherapy (scientifically-based herbal medicine) I have to say that there is almost noone like Christopher Hobbs, except maybe David Hoffmann. I really respect Christopher because of his genuine love for people, his interest in human wellness is absolutely sincere so you know you are reading the work of a man with ethical integrity. He will never withhold necessary information in order to bias the result: He is always full-disclosure about contra-indications, safety considerations, drug-herb interactions, etc. Buy any of Hobbs's books and you simply can't go wrong! (No I am not related to Christopher Hobbs, nor do I work for him or with him. I am simply a student of his and have to rave!)

Clear and easy to follow herbal healing techniques for women

This book is a joy to read and use. I look through many books in my work as a public librarian, and this is one of the best on herbal remedies to arrive in recent months. The basic preparations for herbs are described, clearing up much of the "mystery" surrounding words like "tincture" and "decoction." The chapters correspond to different types of ailments and/or the corresponding regions of the female body. Each chapter begins with an overview of the ailment/s, and a VERY helpful "What a Doctor Will Do" section - the authors are advocating herbal treatments to supplement, not replace, traditional medical care. Recipes for herbal preparations are presented as just that - recipes. They are easy to spot in the text and very simple to follow. Most of the herbs included are available at local health food stores; the remainder can be purchased from mail order sources, listed at the back of the volume. An interesting read crammed full of useful health information. I highly recommend this title, especially for those new to the practice of herbal healing.
