Women in 19th Century America is a part of a series entitled "The Other Half of History". It is a well-organized book full of useful information and interesting historical pictures and quotes. It has about an equal amount of text and pictures, as well as timelines and sidebars. The eight chapters are organized by theme, starting by describing life in general during the 1800s, leading into discussions of women in areas such as family, education and work, and the big issues of the century, and ending with a summary and short bios of women who gained "Fame in a Man's World". The information is presented very factually and straightforward, but also includes eye-opening quotes and schools of thinking regarding women. The one negative is that it is also presented very briefly (48 pgs.), which will limit it somewhat for research purposes. Nonetheless, this book will be a favorite addition to any library.
