I was dismayed to learn that this book is out of print. It is true that it is not alwaysautomatic to find which point of time one is in in the narratives, but I found that I could follow it quite readily. I enjoyed the themes dealing with fidelity, self-respect and the dangers of dishonesty. I felt the nervous breakdown part of the novel was dealt with realistically. The main plot is about Deborah who is torn between her husband (and his children), her lover, memories of her parents disasterous marriage, and the search for a more authentic self. Intertwined with this are fantasy episodes about the King Arthur story, which I found amusing. I enjoyed the creative form of the story, switching back and forth between present, past, memory and imagining. To me it all connected well on an emotional level and I found the characters and situations often poignantly real. I also enjoyed the wry sense of humor that kept it from being endlessly dark, which it could have been. Ultimately this is a story of courage and hope.
