5star book

Not much bad to write about this one. I but I never expected the end, at least not the theperson of whom you least expect it. Even though it only took me a little over 8 hours to finish, Iwould definitely read this one again for the sake of the author ;)He did one heck of a job. Characters aren't shallow and arewell thought out. Can hardly wait to get my hands on Wolf Pack.In a nutshell, I highly recommand this one to all Battletech Fans who still don't know how the Dragoons and Draconis Combinegot set against each other.

Testing Wolf's Dragoons

This book, which is probably one of the best Battletech novels out there, gives us a look at how House Kurita and Wolf's Dragoons became enemies. Minobu Tetsuhara is the Combine's liason officer with the Dragoons after House Kurita hires the vaunted mercenaries. Tetsuhara must learn from the Dragoons as the Coordinator of the Draconis Combine, Takashi Kurita, orders him to create a unit that mimics the Dragoons' style. Events come to a head when the Coordinator arranges to keep the Dragoons contract and Tetsuhara must choose between facing off with the Dragoons or dishonoring himself as a samurai of the Draconis Combine. Set before the coming of the Clans and the just-finished FedCom civil war, this is Battletech still at its best (before major word limits cut out the legs of many novels). Highly enjoyable, especially if you read the Warrior Trilogy, Blood of Kerensky Trilogy, Heir to the Dragon, and Wolf Pack, a sequel to this novel also by Mr. Charrette.

Who Were Those Guys?

Ah, yes, the novel that presented us with the original enigma of the Inner Sphere, Wolf's Dragoons. Read it for the first time in 1987, I think, and it's thankfully reprinted for all you youngsters and latecomers. The tale of strangers who show up in a war-ravaged universe with military technology the likes of which hasn't been seen in 300 years, and don't answer a thing about anything. A wonderful tie-in with the wedding scene in Warrior: Coupe, and plenty of my junior-high femme fantastique, Natasha Kerensky. A must-read for ANYONE who's ever dreamed of sporting the red-trimmed black of the Dragoons, for it's not just a paint job, people, it's a way of life, "until we all shall fall..."

Charette is the real Battletech god!!

This Battletech novel is one of the best. It gives you an insight into the thoughts and philosophy of the people of the Draconis Combine and introduces you into the warrior code of Bushido. In addition to that,it describes the strong Russian influence in the Combine very well,a fact that is kind of neglected in the newer Battletech novels. And if you ever wanted to understand Takashi Kuritas twisted honor code as Coordinator, this is the book for it.Furthermore, you learn all about the elite mercenary Regiments of Wolfs Dragoons and their leader,Colonel Jamie Wolf. This is definitely the novel for all serious Battletech fans and Science Fiction lovers as well.So go and get it!

Great for old hands and new bloods alike

This was a well written book, whether you want information for your own games or just like action and sci-fi realism. This book gives insight into both the Battletech universe and the code of the Bushido - and the betrayers of that code. Well worth the read no matter what your prefferred sci-fi or action interest.
