The legends said that the Wistrix Donn was a tower of crystalline amethyst, beautiful beyond words. And the legends were right. The legends said that it lay hidden in a secluded valley of the Blue Mountains. And the legends were right. The legends said that Wistrix Donn was a gift of the gods - a gift that granted wishes and performed small miracles, a gift that would bless the people of the mountains until the end of time. And the legends were terribly wrong....Once perceived as a gift of the gods, the Wistrix Donn now presents the ultimate danger. None who approach it will remain unchanged, for the one who touches the miracle and tastes of the mystery will be forever altered. Published in US in 2004.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this first novel by Peter Devries. It is interesting to me that his characters reveal to the reader insights as to not only 'how' their world works, but also 'why' it is so. The struggles, both physical and spiritual, that occur for each of the characters, espcecially Noetic and Ontic, are very understandable yet thought provoking. Thank you for a very satisfying offering. I look forward to your next book.
Engaging Reading

Peter DeVries takes his readers into a new fantasy world where the characters realistically struggle with the same issues that face modern man - devotion to one's closest friend, devotion to one's country, and devotion to one's belief. What makes this novel so engaging is the quality and depth of Peter's description. He has carefully crafted a very believable world with unique individuals who lead us through a storyline of epic proportions. Already I am considering using some excerpts from Wistrix Donn as models for my university writing classes.
Wistrix Donn- I am now a fantasy fan!

Until Harry Potter, I didn't read fantasy. Wistrix Donn reinforced what I was missing by overlooking this literature genre. I purchased the book for our school library in November. The students are reading the book. It is seldom on the shelves. What a great story! The characters are strong and well developed. Wistrix Donn is a "I can't put this book down" until I find out what happens to Ontic and Noetic. The story's twists and turns provide an unexpected, powerful ending that the reader remembers and thinks about after finishing the book. I hope DeVries writes another book soon.
Amazed Even This Fantasy Non-fan!!

A lover of literature, I don't usually enjoy fantasy books, and yet I found myself engrossed in the lives of Ontic and Noetic and the Wistrix Donn. The way the plots intertwined and then climaxed together left me stunned and for several days after, my thoughts would return to what I'd just "witnessed" within those pages. Its no small achievement to have me so grossly engaged in your book, and you have. Thank you and congratulations on a well written work.
