Wiremen is a crime novel set in the fictional city of New Netherland, Rhode Island. The main character, Rufus Koufax, is a down on his luck private eye whose brother Jonah is struggling with constantly trying to protect him from himself. When Rufus comes upon the scene of a gruesome double murder his mind wanders in and out. One of the victims is well known to him, a former girlfriend who fell into the life of a big city call girl. The other victim is a New Netherland police officer named Johnny Fortune, whose nickname amongst his peers was "Mis." Though not an especially bad man or cop, "Johnny Mis" had a way of making bad decisions. The last one he made was deadly. Here's the opening lines of Wiremen: "Bloody froth flew from his mouth splattering the light blue shirts of the two officers. Looking disgusted, distracted by his screams, the expectorant staining their uniforms, they stood back a bit, pulling on powdery green surgical gloves. He flailed fiercely at the air; throwing punches, kicks; finally they stepped toward him, bringing him quickly to the ground. It took a few more minutes to get him handcuffed, nothing for them to grab but his naked body." The story of Rufus Koufax moves back and forth in time - to his early days as a New Netherland cop who didn't last long on the force, largely due to the mob connections of his late father. Fast forward some thirty years to his deteriorating self, both as a private detective and mentally and you'll read about a terribly flawed character. The reader learns in the opening paragraphs that Rufus isn't quite in his right mind, but despite that he's retained some of his innate and substantial abilities as an investigator (despite his character flaws) and he intends to use those to find out who killed his ex-girlfiriend Wanda and Johnny "Mis" Fortune. For more go to: realdealcrimewriter.com
