AN EXCELLENT READ

I'm not usually a fan of mysteries, but I loved Pam Mitchell's first book. No matter what kind of novel you like -- mystery, suspense, romance, thriller -- it's all here. The central character, Tanner Bishop, is believable as a twentieth century disease control expert who is in pursuit of a cancerous bacteria. One of the central issues in the book, however, is the contemporary concern about the power computers have in our society (and their potential for running without human input). Bishop, as well as her supporting cast, are fascinating figures in the race to construct a happier -- and disease free -- future.
