thrilling journey

"Instead of dwelling on who you are not, we must discover who you are." What a thrilling journey into a long ago world and culture where mortal beings with supernatural power live alongside humans, guided by the Word. I loved the fusion of history and fantasy, the stark contrast of never-changing sin of humanity vs. never-changing love and presence of the Creator, and the juxtaposition of war, death, hope, and light. There were several points of view in the book - Brighid, Gurmund, Armand, and Kaeden - which added depth and layer to the story. The backstory of the mysterious beings Eldarans and Shadonae unfolded slowly but once the unseen fight of good against evil came to light, the story moved relatively quickly. There is plenty of physical and spiritual battle as the northern nation invades the southern and great metaphors of faith. I appreciated Brighid's courage, strength, and loyalty. I loved Kaeden's steadfast heart, wisdom, and love for justice. They both had traumatic pasts and doubts about their identity, belonging, and purpose but the book ends with them starting a new journey of purpose and identity. It also ends on a suspenseful note so I can't wait to read the second book in the series to cheer on Brighid and Kaeden's fight against evil. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Enclave Publishing via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
