B. J. Walton [lots of money] has badgered Dr. Adam Sauder, in his early 40's, into joining his team to provide medical care to those in need - trouble is they are headed for Vietnam. B.J. hopes to help Adam. Leah Gentry was on the team replacing Caleb Owens, working with Dr. Roger Crenshaw, the anesthesiologist. She has worked with Caleb Owens back in Kentucky for the past 5 years and is a Captian in the U. S. Army reserves. She also has three brothers in service, one was a U. S. Navy SEAL, one a Navy chaplain and the third was an Army Green Beret. Adam had been in the U.S. Marine Corps with their emblem tatooed on his left forearm and only ninteen at the time everyone was trying to get out of Than Son Nhut. Too Many deaths. Now he has a 19 year old son. Adam is plagued by traumatic nightmares and the only time he got any sleep was the night he shared with Leah. Shortly after he splits out and leaves her behind. Not that she would have left. Ah but how many months later is it that he gets a call from Caleb telling him he is to become a father. He can't help it, he shuts down emotionally. Even with his own son. Both of them head for Kentucky. He wants to know why Leah did not tell him she was pregnant when she showed up in Chicago. His son, Brian wants to know if she is telling the truth. In the meantime Leah is helping a teenager, Juliet with her great-gran, Aurelia, who is dying of cancer and dealing with a pregnancy of her own. Leah feels she is not one to counsel Juliet on an unexpected pregnancy as she is in the same boat. This story is always getting better - the characters are heartwarmingly wonderful - and we keep waiting to see if Leah can help Adam come back to life. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --m - definitely a keeper and tear jerker.
