No one knows why Lachlan MacLean turned traitor at Culloden. Now an outcast in his own land and family, he is laird of his clan in name only. Then from America comes Fiona Fraser, a widow with a healer's touch and knowing eyes. What force draws her to Castle Duart--and what magic draws Lachlan into her arms?
"Winter Fire" is a totally unexpected and satisfying read. Unexpected in that in picking up what I know is a romance novel, I am treated to a little bit of the supernatural. Humor is one of Ms. Hayworth's strengths as the presentation of this surprise character caused me to laugh out loud more than once.Out of courtesy for those of you who have not yet read the story, I will not discuss that any further! The book is very satisfying to read as well. My criteria for judging the quality of a book is to ask myself at the finish, "Would I read this again? "In this case, the answer is a a resounding"Yes."The love story is backed up with solid historical research, and there are enough fascinating plot twists to make me want to finish the book in one large gulp. Due to a demanding job, I stretched out the reading to 2 days! I would absolutely recommend this book as a wonderful holiday gift as we near the long, icy winter evenings.
