In the radioactive wreckage of tomorrow, one man is the last hope of a ravaged America. More savagely driven than Mad Max, the fearless jet fighter pilot known as Wingman takes on the enemy in this searing adventure of the future.
I'd like to start by saying this is the best book I have ever read. It is filled with almost non stop action, has all sorts of different planes (and I love planes),it has great suspense making you feel as if you were really there, and it also leaves off so that there are more books that can be read after it. I have read a lot of books but none compare to this one. I also read slow but that did not stop me from reading it three times. I suggest that if you only ever read one book that this book be the one.
I couldn't put the series down

I started reading the series well over five years ago, and I couldn't put the series down. I own all but one of the old school ones, and I probably have read most of them at least five times apiece, and there are some ive probably read over ten times. I feel I should warn everyone before they even start reading that this series gets wierd, real fast, and once you read the first one you will probably read many more, but at least it is consistent from book to book, with a few exceptions.
gleeful

For those among you who like fast planes with high explosives kicking soviet butt this would be a good book for you. I have only read this first book in the series but im going to have to read a few more.
A good start to an excellent series.

I found the original printing of this book in one of the boxes of books my dad had stored in our garage. Who would have known that that little book was the beginning of something huge. I looked all over for others, but being only twelve at the time, I knew nothing of used book stores. I gave up. But on vacation in Hawaii, I went into a used a book store and found #9 Return from the Inferno and the race was on. Shortly after that, Mack decided to re-release his novels. A very wise choice. His series is now up to 15 and supposedly the next one is coming out very soon. All of Mack's books are superb. This is one of the best. He sets it all up. The war, the Betrayal, General Jones, the Mid-Aks, the NEZ, Syracuse, St. Louis, nuke, pretty women. This is the first in many great successes for Mack. I've read the book at least ten times and I never get bored. The last of a dying breed of post-apocalypse novels.
