One of the best parenting books!

Loved, loved, LOVED this book! It offers practical no nonsense advice to parents about dealing with general and specific situations such as tantrums. There are too many guilt-ridden parents out there who give everything to their child and expect NOTHING in return. Most especially a simple thank you and some respect. It is a great gift for first time parents.

My sister read it just for fun!

The greatest part about this book is how easy it is to read and how directly applicable it is. No long-winded stuffy professors. This book shows you exactaly what to do, and not do, and tells it with humor. An easy read that will make you feel much more sane!

Great!

I thought this book was great. In addition to the very practical strategies for fostering good behavior, this book explains the dangers of path of least resistance, overly permissive parenting. I thought the example of a classroom full of kindergarteners, all with "I'm #1" stickers on their chests, was particularly illustrative of how ridiculous some efforts at "self-esteem" building are. If you want your child to have self-esteem, teach them to do something well, or many things compentantly. Then give them DESERVED praise.

An extremely helpful, supportive guide for today's parents

I thought this book was excellent, very easy to read, and have recemmended it to everyone I know. There is not a parent alive who hasn't been wimpy at one time or another, and who won't recognize him/herself in these pages at some point. I bought the book for a friend who has been very wimpy (and who is getting bratty behavior in return); before I sent it I read the entire thing and found answers and assistance with my own moments of wimpiness. The behaviors the author discusses and the techniques for dealing with and correcting them are laid out in common sense language. You come away from this book feeling empowered, not overwhelmed.

Outstanding book in everyday language with practical tips!

Finally, a book on parenting that didn't make me feel ashamed of my daily mistakes. The book affirms that we are all in the same boat and offers suggestions on how to deal with various (real-life) situations. I have purchased it for my ex-husband, my parents and my son's teacher; we are now all on the same page in our quest to raise a non-brat!
