Biography of an early American Bahá'í

This is one of my favourite books. I love reading biographies, particularly about Baha'is who have distinguished themselves in service to mankind and I found this account of the life of Harry Randall to be very inspiring. The book is written by his daughter in collaboration with another author. Harry Randall was an early American Baha'i who met Abdu'l-Baha when he visited America in 1912. The fact that this book is written primarily by his daughter means that there are valuable first-hand insights of their family life together. It seems that Harry Randall was quite an ordinary man whose life changed remarkably when he accepted the Baha'i Faith in the early years of the last century. Born into late nineteenth-century comfort and affluence, his life was transformed into one of extraordinary service and selfless devotion. He was a brilliant administrator and public speaker who responded with strength, humility, and an ever-deepening faith to the many challenges and tests that he encountered in his life. The book is some 250 pages long and for me it was a page-turner as there was always something interesting to read about in every chapter. There are several black and white pictures showing the Randall family on pilgrimage in the Holy Land with other Baha'is at the time. Harry Randall's story conveys an intimate picture of the history of the Baha'i Faith in America, and of those early Western believers whose struggles and sacrifices played such an important part in its development. I loved reading this book!
