He was born into a working-class family in a poor area of Minneapolis, Minnesota, where early on in life he faced a debilitating illness that led to a profound encounter with God. This encounter ushered him into the life of a very special congregation called Trinity Lutheran. The people of that congregation treated him like a member of the family, nurtured him in the faith, and encouraged him to become a pastor. Though he finally became a pastor, his route into the ministry was an unusual one with many twists and turns. Looking back, he tells an exciting and challenging story about his ministry and how God was with him-sometimes in highly unusual ways. He writes this book in order that others might be encouraged to share their faith stories.
