Beautifully illustrated compendium of more than 900 species

Over 900 species of North American wildflowers, from plants of the Alaskan mountains to flora of the Mexican desert, are portrayed in detailed watercolor drawings in this rich text. The descriptions which accompany the illustrations are comprehensive and scholarly. There is an excellent cross-referencing system and a thorough glossary - the author and artist took an Honors degree in Botany and Zoology at London University - and the text contains a considerable amount of information on habitat, distribution, origin of names, medicinal uses and toxicity. This is far more than just a book of pretty pictures.
