Born to a family of farmers, Lincoln stood out from an early age--literally (He was six feet four inches tall.) As sixteenth President of the United States, he guided the nation through the Civil War and saw the abolition of slavery. But Lincoln was tragically shot one night at Ford's Theater--the first President to be assassinated. Over 100 black-and-white illustrations and maps are included.
My children and I really enjoyed this condensed version of Abraham Lincolns life. It stated the good and the bad in his life without making overstating anything. For example, it says that his children had free rein of the white house and were not typically disciplined. Whether or not he should or should not have disciplined the children (which is a judgement call) is not delved into, just simply stated. The reader can easily follow Abe Lincoln's life chronologically. It was a good book (my judgement call!).
Great little history book!
