Who Is Jesus?... Find out.

This book was exactly what it claimed it would be, a short primer on the person and work of Jesus. It is a clear example of Dr. Sproul's wonderful style; a carefully measured portion of theological depth explained in terms the rest of us can understand. I always enjoy reading Dr. Sproul's work, as it is always so well thought out, reasoned and clear; this particular book is no different. Who Is Jesus? Is broken up into 3 different parts. The first part identifies the need to understand who Jesus is/was. The 2nd part (more substantial than the first) discusses the titles that scripture has bestowed upon Jesus and their importance. The 3rd part talks about the life of Jesus. I enjoyed the book though I would prefer a more substantial work on the subject. That being said, this book is great for its intended audience, which is to say that it is the perfect introduction to the person and work of Christ. As usual, Dr. Sproul's mastery of theology and philosophy are quite evident. In his customary manner he brings a wealth of knowledge to bear, without overwhelming his audience. I have no reservations about recommending this book to any of my friends, and have already done so to my family. *I have been given a free copy of this book in exchange for posting my review of it. It was not given on the condition of a favorable review.

Christ is Lord

Every fight about Christianity I have ever had always comes to a collision about who Jesus is. A few years ago I got into a heated conversation with two Mormon ladies about who Christ is. They kept trying to tell me that we could all be just like Jesus. I took them to Hebrews 1. Pointed out that Christ was the exact representation of God. He is the ultimate. Then took them to Revels 1 with Christ being the Alpha and the Omega and how he made John wet himself. Then on to Revels 19 where Christ comes down from heaven on a horse with a tattoo on his thigh that says "Christ is Lord!" Really my friends? Really? You think that we can be like that? The first booklet in Sproul's series of Crucial Question seeks to answer the question of Who Jesus Is. Sproul begins by pointing out the main error in liberal Christianity. They don't really believe that Christ is the Christ from the Bible. So they neuter him and turn him into something safe. Sproul's aim is to write these books for those who are new to the faith or also for a those outside the camp. What interested me that throughout the book Sproul addressed some difficult topics. He discusses Greek, Hebrew, as well as Grecian philosophy. What interests me is the reason for this. Why would Sproul put into a book for new believers or the unsaved information that might cause them to be bored or think the book to intellectual? The reason for this I think was that Sproul wishes to show the reality of the historical Christ. Biblical languages, philosophy, historical episodes adds depth. At the beginning stages of the Christian walk things look easy. Be like Jesus but the more you learn, you realize you are no longer in a kiddy pool anymore, but you tread water in a gigantic ocean. Sproul wishes to throw his readers in to the deep end of the pool in Who is Jesus? This is a book well worth a read. I would highly recommend it for working through in a group setting. I also would give it away without any problems. Buy two. One to keep and study, the other to give away.
