An urban tale of love against the odds, in which Max, an upwardly mobile copywriter and Nora, a 40 year-old waitress from the wrong side of town, become embroiled in a torrid affair. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I loved and cared about the characters in White Palace. (The movie was wonderful and sexy too, but not always in the same way as the book.) I read Goldman's Anatomy as soon as it was published, but that was nearly ten years ago. I hope there is more to come from Savan...
Fabulous !

I was actually sad when I finished the book and had to leave Nora and Maxes world.

I loved this book. I read it three times in three days. The author manages to make even minor characters completely believable. The characters are sympathetic even when they are acting in mean spirited ways. They are decent but imperfect human beings .Also great sex scenes This book is a fun ride. The author's second book Goldman's Anatomy is also good .
One of my all-time favorites

Don't go by the movie. The casting of the beautiful Susan Sarandon as the female lead defeated the premise of the book. A young, handsome copywriter falls in love with a white-trashy woman, after mourning the death of his pretty-as-a-princess wife. They're a total mismatch, but he can't resist loving this woman anyway. The writing, the emotions, the strength of Nora, the female character, are totally absorbing. If you like this one, try Robert Cohen's The Here and Now, or Stephen Schwartz's Therapy, or Tom Perrotta's The Wishbones.
One of the most beautiful love stories in modern fiction

Why is this book out of print? This really is one of the most beautiful love stories in modern fiction. I couldn't put it down. Unfortunately I loaned my copy to someone who never returned it and now it is out of print. Track it down in used bookstores - it's well worth the trouble.
