Could not put it down!

Book was completed across 2 days worth of commuting, and it only made me wish for a longer commute! A great novel that engulfs the reader into Dick Elder's world, east to west. Feels as if he, himself, is right there telling you the story. Highly recommended!

Arriving West

Which Way Is West is the quintessential campfire tale. From the very start of the book, the reader is invited to sit beside Dick Elder as he reveals the uniquely dense landscape that his life allowed him to travel. The tone and style of his words are as welcoming as a well built fire; and with his refreshing humor and intelligence, he establishes an undeniable companionship between himself and his privileged audience. The stories, which detail the incredible days in his life capture the imagination and ingite the spirit with a desire for adventure. We are reminded of our ability to perserver, and recongnize our need to maintain hope, love and our ability to dream of a life beyond the one we know.

A great read on a train, plane or bus trip

Dick Elder's book was so mesmerizing I couldn't put it down when I started reading. His innovative plans for building a successful dude ranch were inspirational as he overcame one diversity after another. Elder's writing style is down to earth and you are there with him every step of the way. I will read Which Way Is West again and recommend it highly to my friends. Maybe a few enemies too. Alan Abel

Hard Work/Determination - Valuable Life Lessons

"Which Way Is West" carries the reader back to the sixties ... but not the hippie/tie-dye theater in America at that time. This is a story about another American theater of the time and at it's best: having a dream and working desperatly hard to create the reality. Mr. Elder speaks in simple prose which high-lights the simplicity of life in the Colorado hinterlands while it underscores the adventures of building something from nothing. The reader will follow along as the author leaves all behind, arrives with his dream, and goes to work.

Quite simply, a wonderful read!

Which Way is West tells the real-life adventures of an Ohio city slicker who turned his dream of being a cowboy into a reality. Having more passion than sense and more guts that money; Dick Elder quits a very good job, sells his belongings, and heads west to create one of the finest dude ranches in America. Written in straight forward and cut-to-the-chase language, this engaging book will entertain you and keep you riveted to your seat from start to finish. Don't miss this book, but be careful when you start reading it, because once you do, you will not want to put it down.
