Offbeat and profound

Reviewed by Christina Gonzalez, LMHC for Reader Views (5/06) From the offbeat, "Stay away from words that start with capital letters-you never know where they've been" to the profound "What size cup is your belief system?" Leslie Miklosy takes his readers through a truly offbeat journey into his mind and into his world! "Dance with me so I can show you the way to get gloriously lost in the forest", he writes on page 80, and yet this particular thought characterized my experience of reading his book: getting gloriously lost in the forest. This collection of seemingly random yet altogether-in-a-pattern thoughts at first seemed odd to me. Offbeat seemed to be an understatement. I read some very interesting articles about the author, Leslie and his random musings, and started reading thoughts from his book over the course of over a month. At first I tried to read page-by-page but this did not work for me. I finally realized that this is the type of book to be read by inspiration, by opening the book, letting the pages open to where they may, and by closing my eyes, merely pointing to the most random of the random thoughts and concentrating on it. Some of the thoughts were deep and profound. Others were comical. Others made me just wonder. And others- well I'm still trying to figure them out! Regardless, I found that this book makes a great source of entertainment at the same time that it introduces some thoughts that I can choose to apply to my own life. This morning's random thoughts included from page 69, "Life's an extremely serious game that for sanity's sake needs to be played lightly" and "Why look at the underbelly of wonderful?" In reading this, I can just read and move on, OR I can take one of these thoughts and try it on, and make it a thought for the day. And some of these thoughts are excellent for that sort of thing! The others- well, they are just a treat to be able to get into the mind of the author, Leslie Miklosy. If you are looking for a deep, full course meal or feast for your soul, I would suggest you look elsewhere. If, however, you are looking for a delightfully fresh and zingy emotional dessert, this is a refreshing treat and voyage....Happy getting "gloriously lost" in the forest of your life!
When was the last time your mind danced when you read a book?

"Dance with me so I can show you the way to get gloriously lost in the forest." This charming quote from the book, "Which is More Round, the World or Your Tummy," is a great introduction to the delightful dance of words found on every page. The author, Leslie Miklosy, lets his prose twirl and play, dance and giggle, hit and run. I found reading his book to be a thoroughly engaging and enchanting experience that made me smile, think, nod, and even scratch my head a little now and then. Once you open the cover, you will find a book that is fast and easy to read if you choose, yet if you prefer to read it slowly and thoroughly, you will have a greater appreciation of the writing skill and talent of this writer. "Which is More Round, the World or Your Tummy" is a completely original, quizzical, fanciful little book packed with serious delights for the mind, heart, soul and ... funny bone. I recommend this imaginative and insightful collection of original quotes, musings, poetry, philosophy, observations and thoughts to anyone who likes to read for mental stimulation or for plain entertainment. "Tummy" covers such a wide variety of topics that I cannot imagine anyone not finding something to thoroughly enjoy. If thoughts are nourishment of the mind and words are food for the soul, then Mr. Miklosy has written a delightful side dish of life. I hope there will be a second helping in the future!
