One morning, when Miss Perkins steps outside to check her mailbox, she finds something unexpected: a cat. Miss Perkins keeps a very tidy house, so she must find a new home for her furry visitor. But... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I found this very sentimental and smart on kid and parent levels - there is a lovely development as Miss P succumbs to the kitty's purr, then his "kiss," then footwarming and finally his mouse chasing heroics. The dialogue is "flat" because this provides the predictability that little tots find so delicious. It's an understated, arty little tale that wears well on repeat readings (and there will be many!) My 16-month-old loves to find the kitty in the lovely illustrations.
We keep checking it out of the library...

My 4.5-year-old likes this book a lot, and has asked to check it out of the library over and over again. We like the story of the cat and Miss Perkins growing gradually fonder of each other, until Miss Perkins finally adopts the cat. The illustrations are sweet and the cat's hiding places are cute, and the repetitive language makes it easy for young kids and young readers to follow along or read for themselves. I've give this book five stars, but I have to agree with other reviews that the language is a bit flat. I'm good at reading aloud, but even I have to work hard to breathe life into the dialogue in this book.
Wonderful story

When Miss Perkins finds Fitz outside on a cold winter day, she takes him home. But, she tells him he can not stay because she likes a very tidy house. She places an ad in the paper and each time someone comes to see Fitz, he disappears. My daughter enjoys finding Fitz in each of his hiding places and it is so sweet that Miss Perkins ends up liking Fitz and keeps him. Excellent illustrations and simple text make this fun to read for even young toddlers. We have given several copies of this book as a gift and it is always well received!
