A joy to read

I read this book, along with its two sequels, in one sitting. The book simply wouldn't let me stop reading it. It is filled with wisdom, and it helped me gain tremendous insights into my own life. It was truly inspiring. It is a book that I will return to many times in order to absorb the depth of its wisdom. I look forward to more books by this author.

Encourages you to keep on keeping on.

Several years ago, I was challenged by many doubts and fearsconcerning my dreams of moving to the States and becominga successful law-enforcement officer there. It seemed likea road was blocked anywhere I looked at. Whatever a wayI took, I was confronted by seemingly impossible obstacles.Soon I was questioning my own motives and considered givingup the whole dream. Back then I thought sincere dreams arejust dreams, and were never intended to come true.Well, then I met someone who told me, "you are not alone withyour problems. Other people have gone through similar problems, and there is a way out. You just need to try something elsein a slightly different manner".As I am open-minded, I decided to give it a try, and read thiswonderful book. Indeed, yes, it comforted me and as this storyis based on a real-life experiences of the author himself, Iwanted to value the lessons it taught. It was like a mutual journey with the main character who wentthrough life's rocky road -- ultimately leading a reader to aplace where all TRUE success and happiness originates. Soempowering was the message that I was nailed to read this bookthrough eventhough it took me a whole night...but it was reallyworth my time, and actually has made me to read the book again and again.John Harricharan knows what he is talking about, and he canhelp you to return your faith in yourself. Never, ever, give upyour hope or dreams. You can do it, you can be anything you wantto be, and life can be your best friend. All that is needed isa desire to try a slightly new way of thinking and feeling. Giveit a try, and I promise you will not regret that you bought thismasterpiece. After all, you should never waste your life.No dream is too good to be true... Most of the times we dream toolittle, and after reading this book -- I decided it is time tomultiply my dreams -- and make them many times grander andgreater. You can do the same... I cannot say that I have alwaysachieved my goals -- but I am on my way, and won't give upsince I know that the Morning Has Been All Night Coming.

Listening to the self

Some reviewers of this book seem to have missed the point totally. Gideon (or Yellowfeather or Chang or Donald Shimoda) are not external guides -- they are ourselves. We all have an inner teacher that guides us through life if we can learn to listen to it. This book is a parable on life. When we learn to listen to what we know to be true, then we will truly be happy, no matter how many bill collectors are nipping at our heels. WHEN YOU CAN WALK ON WATER, TAKE THE BOAT is a delightful book on the discovery of the self. This book is about a journey, not a destination - it's a journey that we are all on.

Inspiring, Unique Perspective

After reading this book, I'm not quite ready to "walk on water" but my outlook sure has changed. The author shows many positive ways to get through "bad times". It's very simple, but the truths found here are profound. I enjoyed it immensely.

Oars? This water walker never leaves home without em'.

I have walked on the water (a little) and rowed the boat (a lot) since my last review of this book and I regret my original pan of your uplifting material. John, sorry for the heat I gave you about Gideon. I like this guy, now!
