Book Overview

It is reported in the headlines, confessed in the pulpits, and hidden in the pews in churches around the world. The seduction of God's people by the deceiver is a tale as old as the garden, but we are always surprised when it happens. We must realize that Satan is a lion on the prowl and we are his prey.

Beth writes with a passion fueled by the Biblical warnings of the schemes of Satan's seductive activity and the broken-hearted concern of...

Great Book

Really love Beth Moore’s books.

Fills an essential gap

This is one of the most important books I've read in the past five years. I say it fills a gap because of the way it so clearly addresses the specific topic of spiritual "seduction." The anonymous reviewer of 3/26/02 did a good job of describing what that is and is not. In contrast to the willfully disobedient or rebellious person, the seduced person may by almost imperceptible steps to a spiritual disaster he could not have imagined could happen to him. Moore is compassionate without being soft. She does not excuse the sin or the sinner, but her harsher words are for those who those who are ready to throw the first, second, and third stones. The book is very practical in terms of the risk factors for being seduced, how to arm ourselves, how to get help from God and others when we have fallen, and how to be a godly helper to someone else in the situation. As a missionary doctor with some background in counseling and with some member care responsibilities, I can say that this book (or something else like it, which doubtless exists though I don't know what) should be essential reading for pastors, counselors, lay leaders, missionaries, and anyone else with leadership and pastoral responsibilities. Beyond that, it would be valuable reading for anyone serious about his or her spiritual life.

Take out the trash......

Thank you God for once again using Beth Moore to speak truth into our lives. It is not usually the obvious, recognizable, 'really big' sins, but the insidious, underlying, almost harmless temptations that have put the small cracks into our temple (as Beth puts it)and allows Satan to destroy us. It made me mindful, and, along with the video, showed me visually not to ignore signs and especially to get the trash out and live in abundance of our Lord. May every believer know the freedom that only comes from Him.

There But For the Grace of God...

Struggling to understand why a wonderful devout friend of mine committed crimes that landed him in state prison, I was intrigued by the title of this book when I saw it at a friend's house, so I bought it. Beth does a wonderful job of explaining how those who are truly committed to Christ can fall into Satan's snares. The elements she describes of Satan's seduction were verified by my friend who said his experience was just as described by Beth. A much-needed and obviously God-inspired book with a serious warning for those of us who think we're too close to the Lord to ever forsake His Word.

The Warning, the Watchman, and the Way

This title is the second I have read by Beth Moore, and it is the best yet. It is easy to read, but profound in nature. Many Christians may be inclined to miss the impact of this book because of its simplicity.Moore here does not seek to be informative, but inspiring. There are many other volumes on the market that offer much better insight into the darkness of human nature. If a person is desiring that sort of deeper understanding, then this book is not the one to purchase. If a person is looking to find motivation to overcome his/her darker side however, then this title is the one to choose.Moore divides her work into three basic sections: the Warning, the Watchman, and the Way Home. The Warning section describes the attacks Satan makes against devout believers. The Watchman section unfolds ways in which a disciple's defenses can be strengthened to resist such attacks. The Way Home section, as the title implies, points Christians in the right direction to recover from having succumbed to temptation and seduction from the Enemy.I recommend this book highly to persons who are intent upon living consecrated, victorious lives for Jesus Christ. Moore's honesty, transparency and humility serve only to strengthen the arguments she presents. This one is not a book to miss!

Protecting yourself in today's world

The title of this Beth Moore book is certainly a provocative and thought-provoking one. We all wonder why godly people stumble (including ourselves.) The author explains to us the seductive forces in the world today and shows how sincere Christians can fall into wrong thinking and acting. She then details how we can arm ourselves, through prayer, Bible-reading, accountability groups, and other methods to resist the temptation all around us and keep our eyes on God. She describes what repentance really is and shows us how to go about restoring our tarnished relationship with Christ. This is inspiring and is a wonderful "how-to" book for any Christian.
