Square's fictionalized version of this true story is chock-full of dialog and fast-paced on-ice action with side-trips into early 1900's Winnipeg society and World War I naval action. It's a story of big dreams, big obstacles and big wins that incidentally portrays the coming-of-age of a generation. The pictures and short bios of team members included in the book satisfy the curiosity of readers who are hooked on Square's larger-than-life characters and want to know what became of them after the 1920 Olympics.

David Square has written a true story about a Canadian hockey team of Icelandic boys in Winnipeg during the early 20th century that overcome all odds, controversy, discrimination and hardships to represent Canada in the 1920 Winter Olympics. It's a heart warming story that will be of interest to anyone who has played hockey, or any other team sport for that matter, and has experienced the thrills of winning and the humilation and sorrow of defeat. I read the book in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down and went through the withdrawals one experiences when the last page was turned and knowing there was no more to read. It's Canada's version of the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team and the movie "Miracle on Ice" only in a different era under far more harsh and adverse conditions. If you enjoy a good sports story you will love this book. I highly recommend it!
