A down-to-earth analysis

In 2001, the United States came under its first-ever serious biological attack, when envelopes containing anthrax began to be received by government officials and media people. In the United States Senate, Bill Frist, the only M.D. serving in the Senate and a long-time proponent of readiness against bioterrorism, leaped into action, making himself and his website a clearinghouse of information about the situation. In 2002, Senator Frist compiled his information on bioterrorism in this succinct and easy to understand book.The first chapter of the book is Senator Frist's timeline of the 2001 anthrax attack. The second chapter focuses on what the average American should have to prepare for a bioterrorist event, which contains information on what you should do, and what you should have (largely a standard disaster kit). After that, the book has six chapters on viruses and bacteria likely to be used by bioterrorists (anthrax, smallpox, plague, tularemia, and Ebola and other viral hemorrhagic fevers), including what they are, how they are recognized and a threat analysis of the organism. Finally, Senator Frist looks at chemical weapons, and what the nation needs to do to be more prepared for future bioterrorism.I have read several books on bioterrorism of late, and this one is the most down to earth, and practical book of them all. It is not meant to alarm the reader or provoke action, but merely gives out the pertinent information, so that the reader can understand the issues involved. If you want a simple analysis of bioterrorism, then I highly recommend this book to you.

A Timely Book Indeed

No one can translate complex scientific concepts into language any layman can understand as readily as Bill Frist. When Every Moment Counts is a timely and important guide for the common American. We are indeed fortunate that Dr. Frist serves us in the Senate at this critical point in our history.

This is serious stuff.

Watching the news doesn't give you the whole the whole story on bioterror, but this book certainly does. It covers all the major threats you hear about (just the section on smallpox should be enough wake you up!), and includes some serious pictures of the effects of the the different agents. Don't miss chapter 2, "A Family Survival Guide". It is remarkably easy to read, and would also make an excellent reference book for a school library. The point of the book is that even though bioterror is a serious threat, with the right information we dont' have to live in fear. This book gives you that information.

Excellent prep book.

This is not a book that warns of more attacks or a novel which details out terrorism. This is a very comprehensive guide for if and when Bio hazards come our way. I would have to say this is an excellent prep book that covers what I believe to be all known possible bio threats and what to specifically do in each case. This is medical and science, with very useful illustrations, a real book for a real need. A good book that (Which convinces the need to read "When Every Moment Counts") explores and predicted this very same terrorism and bio war to come is SB 1 or God by Karl Mark Maddox.

Got Excellent Information From this Book!

This book gave me a lot to think about. Terrorism is devestating and reminds me of events I read in a recent book called "Revelations: The Years 2000" by Janet Markey. Both books makes you realize how fragil live really is and the importance of knowing that we don't know what may happen at any given time. We should treasure life, pray, and make sure our lives are in order. I know I will!
