Interesting View On Things

In this book, Dr. Dobson talks to men and women about relationships in their marriages, their children, work, money, housepets, and God. This book was right on when he talks about how important it is for men and women to work on their marriages, not become workaholics so that we don't deprive our spouses and kids of ourselves. I loved some of the humor in the book, like when someone suggested that he write a book on strong-willed wives (which I'm sure my husband would love), and he said that he wouldn't touch that one with a shovel. It was also very clear that Dr. Dobson loved his father very much and was a major influence in his life. I loved that stories about Dr. Dobson's dad's dog and Dr. Dobson coming to know the Lord towards the end of his life. Many people accuse Dr. Dobson of being sexist and racist, but I don't see that at all in his book. Dr. Dobson is a very big champion of marriage and keeping the family together. We need more people like him, so that we don't have as many broken people in this society.

Great Book for Men!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It provided a lot of useful information and helped improve my marriage of 22 years. I highly recommend this book to husbands of any age. If you're a young husband, this book can REALLY help you get off to a good start.

Is Christianity alive today?

This book might have been published in 1978, however it makes many points that apply in today's world as well. This book outlines a man's responsibilities to his family and his God. In doing so, it also descibes how a woman(wife and mother) fits into the picture of marriage. Non-Christians will most likely find Dr. Dobson's view to be sexist and outdated. However, if the book is read entirely and seen from a Christian point of view, it is nothing of the sort. I hope you will find the book enlightening and helpful in your Christian lives.

My husband bought this book for his fellow workers!

I bought this book for my husband shortly after it first was printed because I thought it would enrich our marriage of a few years. I took a "sneak peek" at the book and read it all in one night! I learned so much about myself as a woman and had some real laughs about how we really do think! My husband read it and commented that three books changed his life: The Bible, "How to Win Friends and Influence People", and this one. He bought a few paperbacks and took them to his young married friends at work. I have given this as bridal shower gifts because its value is lasting. Now I am ordering another one to replace my long lost book I loaned out. It is easy to read a book that it so true but amusing also.

A must read for any human being on this earth!

I not only want to commend Dr. James Dobson for so poignantly making the point that today's society is falling apart at the seems and that we need to re-focus on the family values that are so lacking, but I also want to reply to the author of the review entitled, "What an Outrageous Joke on Families!". It is very clear that Mr. Dobson has done his homework for this book. He clearly outlines the shortfalls of today's society and links them to their source, the family. This is not a sole opinion either. Many family physiatrists feel the exact same way. As a matter of fact if you pick up any child psychology report you will be assured a healthy dose of this same type of thought. This is a must read book for any person. Fathers, Husbands, Wives, Mothers, Men and Women etc... This book is not about going back to the days of yore and trying to live our lives in the same manner of our great great grand parents. It's about learning to live your life the way God had intended it to be lived. All the points that this other person wrote in their review that relate to today's society, for instance 80% of all mothers work outside the home and other similar statements, may or may not be true, but this person is so obsesses with being personally offended, as if the book was written to them, that they are missing the point. Doesn't this person read or watch the news? Are they not the least bit concerned that this world is in a bad way? If they are so fired up about Mr. Dobson's view why don't they tell us what they think we should do? Where is their book. I would love to read it.
