The windswept, rocky shores of Maine are inhabited by a people as rugged and individual as the coast. Tree-lined, fog-shrouded coves guard ancient mysteries. And in a small coastal town, a young girl... This description may be from another edition of this product.
"What the Sea Wants" tells the relationship between several characters living in coastal Maine. Although the story specifically focuses on the mysterious dynamics between the sea and Victoria. The sea lets it's fingers wash up in waves, reaching for both love and victim in the quest for what it wants. Almost as if it were some ancient child god of Poseidon. Eventually and in it own sublime way, the seas washes against the ankles of every one in the sleepy pocket town in one manner or another. The symbolism and metaphors in the story are wonderfully buried sea shells that one will walk right by at first. However, if you stay a while and play with the imagery and meanings, you'll find rewards for your own discovery. The story is lean and at the same time playful, at times rushing in to snappy playfully at your own childhood while at other times daring you to stumble into a fairy tale forest on Christmas Eve. It simply radiates a magic just surreal enough to tip you ether of twilight, where strange things happen but completely acceptable. Such as it is with childhood and secrets and things adults don't quite understand, but feel. One of the admirable qualities of the "What the Sea Wants" is that while you can pin point the distinction between the sea and the land, the line that divides the two are ever moving and ethereal. In much the same way is the involvement between the authors words and the readers own imagination. This is not just a wonderfully written fairy tale for children of all ages, it is psychological journey that teases and treats those adventurous enough to ask the sea what it wants. Kudos to Ms.Banghart for a job well done, I look forward to your next book.
A Spooky Seaside Story

What the Sea Wants is exactly the sort of book I enjoyed when I was in middle school. The storyline is mysterious and the writing ethereal. Enough is left unsaid that your imagination can take over, which is the very best part of a fairy tale, no matter your age. I definitely recommend it.
