A much-awaited sequel to Gibelman's best-selling book, this second edition provides a panoramic look at social work and offers practical information about the current status of various service areas.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The book is a good summary of the field of social work. Explaining the major areas of effort. Like treating people with substance abuse. Or dealing with the elderly. Another topical area is eating disorders. Not commonly considered substance abuse (=narcotics, tobacco and alcohol). But increasingly a concern in an affluent society where many jobs do not require much physical effort. One section of the text deals with AIDS/HIV patients. Despite the use of protease inhibitors, many still die. And others who do not need to take their medications regularly. The social worker often has to deal with such people; perhaps more so than medical professionals.
