Pictures Tell the Story

I loved the show and wish they still did it. Thankfully, they now are starting Making Over America. The book is good in that the pictures clearly illustrate the points they are trying to convey. The downside is that some of their advice from the UK does not translate well to the USA. Also, as with any fashion advice, some of the stuff you see is going to be a bit dated by the time the book hits the shelves. Overall, it is a worthwhile book that I enjoyed. I do agree with another reviewer in that it did have a couple of "befores "that I thought looked better than the "afters". But in general, the book gives you a great sense of exactly what the title says, how to dress for certain occasions.

Now, I finally know how to dress for every occasion...from weddings(if I'm not the bride) to funerals(if I'm not the deceased)... Truly a great read and continual reference guide for women like me..

If you read the intro to this book it is a great help to understanding and utilizing it best. Many of the "what not to wear outfits" are as Trinny and Susannah say the most obvious options and therefore BORING. What they are trying to teach the reader is how to be different but still appropriate, and also how to stand out. It is a wonderful source for anyone who wants to do that. It is fun to look at, has funny comments, and will help you get out of a rut, as will all of the what not to wear books. I highly reccomend all three. It is also an excellent eye opener for anyone who is in a bit of a time warp. Give them to all of your girlfriends as gifts.

a hilarious and useful style guide

I looked at this book as well as their first one in the book shop and after glancing at a few of the pages, decided on this one. I found it to be absolutely hilarious. I love their wicked comments, especially the ones on the 'what not to wear' side. A past reviewer commented that they merely seemed to be mocking the middle-class which is what I found appealing about them. This book pokes gentle fun at Miss and Mrs. Average and offers you the option to break away from the mold and to express your own individuality and creativity. Sure some of the outfits are a bit overdone but I think the point is to get a sense of the style while keeping in mind the appropriateness of the occasion. One can use her own imagination to adapt their suggetions to her own personal style. After all, most of us don't attempt to duplicate the looks we see in movies and fashion magazines, but we can certainly find ideas that might work for our individual bodies and life styles. This is a great read for fans of the show. It is not the ultimate fashion guide as no book really is but there are plenty of tips for those who want to stand out from the safe and ho-hum crowd and also for those who can appreciate the British wit.

This book was both entertaining and helpful. Being one of the people who has a closet full of "what not to wears" I thought it was chockful of useful information that I can use to update my wardrobe. Now off to go shopping! Debbie Farmer, parenting author of 'Don't Put Lipstick on the Cat!'
