What Makes You So Strong by Jeremiah Wright

What Makes You So Strong, is a book that gives the reader information in an afrocentric, biblical context. Jeremiah Wright is a poet who uses metaphors, alliteration devices at the top of excellence in the craft of writing and expression. This book is useful for not only bible students, but those whose lives have spiraled into drugs, or other destructive life paths; and those who need motivation to stay straight and focused on life goals orfor those who just need some encouragement while being oppressed with struggles economically, or socially.

Some of my favorite sermons by Emeritus Pastor Jeremiah Wright, Jr.

If you want to get a good idea of what preaching is all about come Sunday morn's in some (not all - no sterotypes here) of the African American church, read on. Uplifting, dynamic, powerful and spirit-filled with wisdom, humor and intellect, found no where else in the pulpit. Pastor Wright is currently emeritus of TUCC (Chicago, IL); TUCC is the largest congregation (which also happens to be African American) in the UCC denomination and after reading this book you will know why.

Sermons of Joy and Strength

My grandmother gave me her copy of the book while I was away at college. This was at least 10 years ago. I recently picked it up again to re-read. It is such a blessing and just as timely as it was over 10 years ago. In "When God is Silent" - from the 1991 Sermon Series Dr. Wright preaches about what we can learn during those times God is Silent. 1. frustration, 2 communication 3 anticipation. It is frustrating to hear about violence in my community. That apparent silence from God forces us/me to communicate with God. Not to continue to talk and rattle off with our list of demands (sometimes hidden as prayers) but to really communicate with God. Let your faith remind you that God is doing something about it - maybe not on your timetable. This was truly a sermon of Joy and Strength.

One of the best sermonic books I have ever read

This is one of the best collections of sermons I have ever read. The messages are powerful and life changing! This should be a must read for all christians. I highly recommend this book!

THE BOOK IS AWESOME, JUST LIKE THE AUTHOR

Dr. Wright is a dynamic and awesome speaker, a prayerful and teaching Pastor who is never too busy for anyone. After hearing Dr. Wright speak in person, you will walk away just knowing that the sermon was intended only for you. Everyone walks away with joy and inspiration. This I know for a fact, I am a member of Dr. Wright's church. I am also a member of the Women's Chorus which consists of approximately 255 women. GOD IS GOOD -- ALL THE TIME !!! PASTOR, WE LOVE YOU !!!
